I am feeling a strange sense of dread when it comes to my family members. My parents and I had this novel Coronavirus. The suffered losses in the extended family, uncles and cousins. But they seem to really be invested in the theory that this virus was created as a political conspiracy. That we, the world, had to suffer from it just to help the presidential election here in the U.S. That somehow, it is helping the different sides to come up victorious in their pursuit of victory. A seize of power.
I am not going to say that those theories are true, because they simply aren’t. They are not based in fact or data that shows anything valid, but fear fueled. It is frustrating because this kind of thought process makes up the majority. Not just of the country. It is the world at large.
That is scary. A population that lets their fears rule their judgment. It is more common than you think. They dwell among us going unnoticed only bringing attention to themselves when they can find a herd to melt into. There they can be at peace to hopefully not be noticed. This herd mentality is detrimental to society because people get lazy and lose the ability to think critically about the information that is presented to them. That is dangerous.
I once dated a man that told me a story about how changing your contacts can lead to getting Pink Eye. But it was more complicated than just taking the contact out. It had to do with blowing your nose after you made the transfer of the contact. He claimed that most cases of the pink eye come from this sequence of events. People make up stories all of the time to explain what they do not understand. It was this limited mentality, limited education, that gave rise to conspiracy theories from the beginning of the inception of conspiracy theories. Honestly, if you are unsure of something ask questions. Look it up. We live in a digital age and open fact checking forums are easily accessible.
We, in this ever complicated, media hungry modern world must be responsible for the information that we consume. How we take it in and break it down and then we relay to the people that we are around most. Thinking critically about that content that we are given is so important, not only to our personal development but to the development of a modern society that is accountable. It is responsible. It is ethical.
*Fact: You should always wash your hands before touching your eye or putting anything in it to evade the possibility of contracting anything like pink eye. Thankfully, I was only with this boy for a month, but the utter waste of my brain power.
*Fact: COVID-19 came out of a meat market in China that dealt with exotic animals and bats. How did it get there? We don’t know. There is speculation that the disease was developed in a laboratory in China.
Not sure if this was for the prospective use to mold and control populations at large for any political gain, yet.
