I had my first book reading last night in Columbia. Events leading up to the actual center point of the evening were laughable. From not receiving my books and stickers on time, to arriving to the event not knowing where the entrance was and having to be wheeled in on a foldable wheelchair with the materials that I did have, it was all together funny.
That’s the thing though, I did read from my now published book. I learned that I need to practice reading more, especially in front of a group of more than two people which is the norm for me.
But all together I think it was a successful event. I was able to read my poetry in front of people who normally wouldn’t have the opportunity. I’m all about transparency and accessibility. This was an attempt to keep in that vein.
